Do you have a favourite? We mostly just have 'lover' and 'close friend', and very little else.

i wouldn't say i have a favorite
but the most common are girlfriend/boyfriend and partner once a relationship has been established

They do not seem adequate for the differences between relations. What of those who are neither man or woman? What if there is not a balance in the relationship?

Perhaps the naming in itself is a limitation.
